What is astrology?

• A divination tool, a way to tell time, a tool to reflect on our inner worlds, a way to project a map of the sky onto our lives, a telling of myths onto the present events, a way to predict energy

• Astrology is a tool to help us understand ourselves better. At the core of astrology is the idea that you are part of the universe and the universe is part of you. Just as you change the world around you by existing in it, the universe also influences you by virtue of your existence. Astrology is the tool that helps us gain information about that influence, and how to work with it to achieve our goals and realize our most authentic selves. What are houses?

• Houses are the 12 sections of a birth chart, representing different parts of life. 

• The Houses are the 12 sections of a birth chart, representing the different areas of life. If you are experiencing issues with romantic relationships, it may be because of a difficult placement in your 5th or 7th house. If you have good luck in your career, it may be because of a harmonious placement in your 2nd or 10th house. Understanding the astrological houses is key in understanding your past, your nature, and your future. 

Core Components of a Birth Chart

• Placements of planets and other notable celestial objects

• The astrological houses, which describe the areas of life where your placements are emphasizing their influence

• Aspects, or the relationships that these placements have with one another, showing where you may experience friction within yourself, or where you may have an innate ease.

What is a birth chart?

• A birth chart shows the composition of the sky at the moment of your birth with the Earth at the center. You can think of it as a sort of spiritual DNA, since it is unique to you and carries detailed information about the building blocks of your being. Learning to read it on your own and compare it against the composition of the sky around the time you plan to make major life decisions, or around the time significant events happened to you in the past, can help you live a more informed life. What is a big three?

• “The Big Three” are three of the most influential components of your birth chart. 

  • The position of the Sun at the time of your birth will describe your core identity as the individual you are and consciously strive to be. This is good to know because it can help us stop running away from ourselves and empower ourselves to live out our destinies. 

  • The position of the Moon at the time of your birth will describe your subconscious, emotional, intuitive, and instinctual identity. This is good to know because it can explain some of the emotional problems we may have, and it can help us properly care for our inner child. 

  • The Rising, or the constellation that was at the eastern horizon at the time of your birth, tells us which areas of life are associated with which astrological signs. This is good to know because it tells us what patterns to expect in different areas of life, and how to syncopate with those patterns instead of working against them.  

Why does this matter?

• It technically doesnt. Astrology is just information about yourself. You can do with it what you please! It’s like a mirror. Some people carry one around at all times, and others avoid looking into them. Ultimately, you decide if it matters to you or not.
